LEADERSHIP

The Rev. Dr. Marcus Stallworth | Pastor

Pastor Marcus Stallworth’s vision as a pastoral leader is to serve a congregation that is built on the foundation of the two greatest commandments found in Matthew 22:36-40 – love God and love neighbor. Based on this love of God and neighbor, his heart is to lead those under his care to action by serving those in the community – and the world – who are marginalized, oppressed, poor, and defenseless, through acts of mercy.

Pastor Marcus holds two undergraduate degrees and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Eastern Kentucky University. Additionally, he earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership and administration from Clark Atlanta University. Then in 2019 he graduated from Candler School of Theology (Emory University) in Atlanta, Georgia, where he obtained his Master of Divinity.

As a second career, non-traditional student, Pastor Marcus described the theological education he received at Candler as a divine intervention as it helped him to shape and discern his call into pastoral ministry.

Prior to coming to the Virginia Annual Conference, Pastor Marcus served as a chaplain intern and a local licensed pastor in the North Georgia Annual Conference. He was appointed by Bishop Sharma Lewis in 2021 to serve the beautiful people of Mathews Chapel UMC.
