WHO WE ARE

Mission Statement

As a local church, we seek,
“To grow spiritually and place God in the center of our lives, so that we may serve our Lord with our hearts and minds and actions.”

As a congregation of the United Methodist Church we seek,
“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

Vision Statement

” We will bring people to Jesus Christ and to use His influence in our lives to embrace and support all our neighbors and greater community with good works and the confidence and conviction that we are all God’s children.”

Our Affiliation

Mathews Chapel is part of the Mission Rivers District in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The United Methodist Church is a 12.5-million-strong global church that opens hearts, minds, and doors through active engagement with our world. Through the power of our connection, we are making a positive difference in more than 125 countries putting our faith into action to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The Rev. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living and putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

Mathews Chapel is identified as a “Bridge Church.” For more info on what is a “Bridge Church” click here: Bridge Churches – UM Next Steps (vaumc.org)
