UNITED METHODIST MEN
Mission
To Help Men Grow In Christ, So Others May Know Christ.
Who we are
The 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline charges the General Commission on United Methodist Men with the “primary oversight for the coordination and resourcing of men’s ministry with The United Methodist Church.” (paragraph 2302)

Brief history
By a margin of 80% to 20%, the General Conference of 1996 approved the creation of the General Commission on United Methodist Men (GCUMM), effective January 1, 1997. The GCUMM assumed the responsibilities of the former Division of United Methodist Men of the General Board of Discipleship. A Board of Directors was established by General Conference to oversee the work of the Commission.

On January 6 after the violent event at the US Capitol, the Council of Bishops endorsed a letter from Bishop LaTrelle Easterling of the Baltimore-Washington Conference condemning “…all the forces that led to the unprecedented insurrection today — forces of hate, of white supremacy, of distorted self-interest, and abuse of power.” As shared at a recent Southeastern Jurisdiction training session for over 400 elected delegates on issues affecting the UMC, it was individual United Methodist Men, more than anyone else, who complained about this letter from the Council of Bishops. That’s why the Virginia Conference UMM sponsored this forum.
- Personal Prayer – February 16, 2021 – Click here to watch (Passcode: wKeU*Ff6)
Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer as a model for prayer. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” There are prayers of adoration, prayers of intercession, breath prayers, lectionary prayers, and corporate prayers. Much has been shared regarding different types and ways to pray. Is prayer a part of your daily life? Is prayer a part of your devotional time with God? Please plan to join us as Rev. Wayne Snead, District Superintendent of the Elizabeth River District, leads a discussion on personal prayer.

One of the most important things we can do in the process of “making disciples of Jesus Christ” is to engage men of all ages and backgrounds in ministry. The most effective tools we have available are the men who are currently involved in our various church ministries. How can we more effectively utilize these men to reach younger men?
